Visit Nantwich Museum, the home of the town's history!

Explore displays covering many aspects of the town's history from Romans in Nantwich and Medieval salt making to the 1583 Great Fire of Nantwich, the Civil War Battle of Nantwich, our 1740s Newsham Fire Engine and our Victorian heritage.

We also have a whole room celebrating the county's famous cheese and dairy industries, a Community Gallery with ever changing displays by local artists and the spacious Millennium Gallery which hosts an eclectic range of exhibitions throughout the year.

Focus on:

Come to the museum to see an original copy of the letter from Sir Thomas Fairfax and William Brereton to General Monroe describing the Battle of Nantwich.

What's on during January?

Special Offer:

Collect a copy of 'On the Civil War Trail in Cheshire' for only 50p when you show your copy of the Holly Holy Day programme at Nantwich Museum.

Community Gallery:

12 Jan - 13 Feb   To commemorate Holly Holy Day we have an extended exhibition exploring the Civil War battle and life in 17th century Nantwich with costume and replica tableware on display.

Millennium Gallery:

18 Dec - 27 Feb  Mythical Marks and Colour Magic: Art by award winning artist Jan Gardner. By using her distinctive palette of colour and mixing media Jan builds up a tactile story, using acrylics, inks, gouache, collage and pastel on paper. The work offers the viewer a sense of wonder and enchantment. A vibrant and colourful exhibition to brighten the winter days!

Workshops for Schools:

Each year we hold fantastic and interactive workshops for local school children which explore all aspects of 17th century life - from the weaponry and drill the soldiers would have used to costume, a tour of the town and drumming practise.
