2011 BATTLE DATE CONFIRMED!

A date has now been fixed for the 2011 Holly Holy Day celebrations. The much loved commemoration of the Civil War siege and battle of Nantwich will take place in the town on Saturday 22nd January 2011.

Whilst more details will be confirmed shortly, the format is expected to closely follow last year's 'best ever' event, which brought much needed colour and atmosphere - and many welcome visitors - into one of our coldest Januaries.

'Many of the Town's traders reported activity and takings up by as much as 25% on the day, so there was an economic benefit as well as a feelgood factor,' reports Holly Holy Day Society spokesman Shaun Cafferty.

'The 2011 event will again be an all day affair with something for everyone - and most of the entertainment free of charge!'

In order to support the event, volunteers are still required to help with planning before hand and assistance on the day itself. Holly Holy Day is a non-profit event staged by a small voluntary group with support from the local councils, the Rotary organisation and sponsorship from local businesses.

'Without this practical and financial support, the event would itself pass into history and the town would lose this special day from the calendar, as well as the economic benefits it brings,' says Shaun.

Local businesses will be approached for their repeated support shortly, and anyone else who is willing to offer any assistance can get in touch via the website:
www.hollyholyday.org.uk, or via the Nantwich Town Council.

There is a question mark over whether Mill Island will be ready in time to stage the battle re-enactment part of the event following scheduled extensive draining work planned for the later this year. Alternative venues are therefore being considered in case of need - so watch this space!
